Eightfold Path

“SN 45.8 Magga-Vibhaṅga Sutta: Analysis of the Whole Path”

  • Right View:
    knowledge of suffering, its origin, its cessation and the path to cessation.

  • Right Intention:
    renunciation, non ill-will, harmlessness

  • Right Speech:
    abstinence from false, divisive, harsh or idle talk

  • Right Action:
    abstinence from destoying life, from taking what is not given and sexual misconduct

  • Right Livelihood:
    abstinence from livelihood based on dishonesty, violence or coercion

  • Right Effort:
    don’t let evil states arise and work to reduce those that have arisen for oneself and for others

  • Right Mindfulness:
    contemplate the body as the body, feelings as feelings, mind as mind and phenomena as phenomena

  • Right Concentration:
    the four jhanas
