Right Way to Teach
Aṅguttara Nikāya 107 (V, 159)
One should set up in oneself five standards if one is to teach the Dharma.
- I shall give a gradual discourse
- I shall give a well reasoned discourse
- Moved by sympathy I shall speak
- Not for the sake of worldly advantage shall I speak
- Without extolling myself or disparaging others I shall speak
NB: An alternative translation of the fifth standard above is: “Without alluding to myself or others”
